Germany is bloody great for immigrants though. The employment agencies there not only provide yo uwith work for free but also arrange for you to have an apartment at a ridiculously low price as to allow you to get on your feet. Too bad i don't speak german. =/

yatta the expert is here xD.

i don't really have any specific questions in mind, but i am kinda thinking of getting masters from germany, and if i like it and manage to find a good job i might stay, so wanted you to talk abit about it xD.
what i been reading is that education is cheap but very hard ?
is german hard to learn ?
in english taught courses do professors really explain everything in english ? or some stuff in german cuz if its the latter, its probably gonna be very hard.
and lastly, how much u think a month living costs ? i read that someone said ~700euro including rent, food, and everything, is that true ?

I can answer that language one from a linguist perspective. The difficulties of languages depend on which language you already know. German is related to English so since you know English it'll be easier than say you only spoke Mandarin.

*traumatic laugh* German is easier if you know English?! I would like to sincerely disagree. It is quite nothing like english aside from a handful of borrowed words despite belonging to teh same anglo-roman language group. If you know german THEN it's easier to learn english mainly because compared to german it is fucking easy. If anything learning german is easy if you know swedish, french, italian or dutch. They make up their own little group of similar languages which english is not part of.

Though in the confines of a very specialised example you brought up - yes, it's easier to learn german if you speak english rather than mandarin.

Then again hema's native language is not english, and despite him knowing it very well chances are his study of german would be better off based on his proper language. (sorry no idea what language they speak in egypt XD ) Mainly because unlike us he would not have to fight the long settled habits of standard writing system in order to learn the quirks of the unique writing system in german. To remember an old proverb unlike people native to english his chalice is not already full so he can learn it more easily. And from there on any language in the anglo-roman group would come easy because german is the hardest among them.

...or maybe i'm just talking outta my ass so who knows xD either way, i'm more interested in which aspects of the brits made liene facepalm XD

Well if you know some french you should have an easier time. It has a lot of those same "curves" in pronunciation as french does. And since you're familiar with spoken japanese you also know how reductions generally work. Except while japanese has a reduction of "U" German has a reduction of "R".

P.S. i still don't know who the heck that guy in my second sig is xD I just randomly stole this sig from TB anyway xD Also

Depending on where you study it could be that you have to pay 500 Euro pro semester and an administration fee for your university, I don't have to pay the 500 Euro because I do not live in a state where you have to pay them. So I only pay the administration fee, which is around 250 Euro per semester you study for me.
The Profs say that since the Bachelor and Mastersystem is in place studying got harder because you have to be "on time". Doing more stuff in less time. So you tend to do seminars that you are not fully interested in just to make it on time, which results in a worse grade. I don't know if it's hard nowadays. Depends on what you study really

I think that if you really wanna learn it, it's not so difficult. Grammar is similar to English (sentence structure and that stuff) and some words are similar as well. We speak like we write (or the other way around cause writing came later than speaking), so if you know how to pronounce something it's pretty likely that you are able to write it. Since you have learned French at some point (even if you've forgotten the most of it) it helps.

English classes are taught in English in 99% of the seminar. Just administration stuff can be told in german but only if it does not apply to foreign students

Living costs is a tough one. It really depends where you live. Cities tend to be more expensive than smaller university towns. but you can apply for help I think, if you fall under that condition. Try if you can apply by Erasmusprogramms they tend to pay for rent if I'm not mistaken.

What made me facepalm in England?
-stand in queue (a word I'll never be able to remember to pronounce properly) for everything
-say thank you an aweful lot (made me feel really rude at the beginning)
-say sorry for no reason at all
-calling strangers love, darling, hun whatever you can think of
-wearing flipflops to business clothing
-the newspapers
and probably a few more thigns

it's pronounced k{you} very simple really xD same as Cue xD or just the letter Q. Also i don't thin saying sorry and thank you is worthy of a facepalm. That is one part of england i like - people are not overly rude like everywhere else. As for love or hun - well i wouldn't know Very Happy Since i'm a guy i just call everyone "mate" and since most girls i know are my age i call em "sweetie" xD Flipflops are however purely indian/arab thing however, i've never seen any self respecting brit wear flipflops with anything other than shorts and t-shirt. On the other hand wait till winter - you will see a lot of indians wearing giant puffy winter jackets... with shorts and flipflops and no socks Very Happy

The english love their queues XD I dunno why, but it keeps things organised. I have to admit I do think we say thank you too much. I recently got a job and I say thank you to the customer, and they say thank you back. That seems 1 thank you too much. There will always be a reason for saying sorry, you just don't know what it was. That depends on the area. Like Leeds (near me) males call females "Love" but down in Nottingham they got called Hun. It's basically just a modern way of saying Miss or Mrs.

I found your opinions of us really really interesting XD Coz it's things I never think about, they just happen

Yepp, Hun it is for me Very Happy but they also say duck, glower, dear, darling, love and whatever else. That creeped me out at the beginning. And I personnaly don't like it because it's inflationary used and doesn't mean anything in the end. But that's my opinion.

Believe me creeps, it's not a arab/indian thing in this area. And I wanna be home when winter starts, though I#ve seen wintershoes in the shops already.

Oh, another thing that made facepalm was: christmas decoration in the middle of august, for fucks sake!

You seriously don't need to say sorry when you are in a full supermaket and someone has to make his way around you. that's a given. I just don'T get it.

and I don'T like the fact that you the shops are open on a sunday. it is nice if you need to get something urgently but other than that I don'T like it

you... complain about GOOD things it seems to me o.o aside from the flip flop thing. What kind of a rude-ass town did you come from? Huh? The few times i've been to Offenbach and the outskirts of Berlin saying "danke" "bitte" and "entschuldigen sie" was just as common as in saying please, thank you and sorry is in england Huh? though entschuldigen sie is a lot harder to say in passing than "sorry" or "excuse me" XD Kinda forces yo uto stop and take a deep breath xD

I'm not complaining about that it's said, I am considered a person who says a lot Entschuldigung and Danke in Germany but it's how often you say it and in situations where it's not necessary. That's all Razz
